Off the Rails 2021

‘Off the Rails’, is an upbeat 4 minute short about two girls travelling in a foreign country. It is based off of the 2019 travels of Bel and her co-director, Isabelle Coury and is currently undergoing the festival selection process.

Off the Rails was completed as a part of Bel’s Bachelor of Design in Animation Honours degree at the University of Technology Sydney. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the pre-production for Off the Rails was written, designed and workshopped in lockdown with our directors Bel and Isabelle working remotely from one another. With eased restrictions throughout the later half of 2020, they were able to power through the production phase and have Off the Rails, animated, soundscaped and composited by February 2021.

As of August 2021, Off the Rails has been nominated for the Yoram Gross Award for Best Animation at the 2021 Dendy Awards and is a part of The Sydney Film Festival’s 2021 Official Selection and as well as the 2021 Official Selection for Capital Film Festival.
Abroad, Off the Rails has been the Winner of Moscow Shorts May Edition and has also been included in the ANNY: Animation Nights New York as a part of their 2021 Official Selection.
